“Do not put trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save.”
-Psalms 146:3
The modern right, very generally, in the United States has two false illusions in their vision of themselves as saviors of the United States. The first illusion is the belief that there will be a second American Civil War. The second illusion, connected to the first, is that a strong man will appear to lead the right in the war.
The first illusion is dangerous because many believe that the right will be victorious over the pseudo-Bolsheviks. This idea is popular, especially in the accelerationist or revolutionary circles of the right. I presume most got this idea after studying the Spanish Civil War, as it is a very popular topic within the right. Furthermore, if we know anything about the Spanish Civil War, the Nationalists in Spain were victorious after General Francisco Franco united all the right-wing factions that existed within the Nationalist camp. After uniting the factions, Franco was victorious over the Republicans, and he was able to install a military dictatorship in Spain. The Spanish Nationalists required a strong unifying leader to succeed. This leader does not appear to presently exist on the right in America.
What many on the right miss are two key factors of the Nationalist victory in Spain. First, the Nationalists were composed of various political groups who collaborated very little with one another. What kept the Nationalist forces together was the blessing of the Army. The Army was a key faction that ignited the rebellion in Spain, and this important faction ended up uniting all the different groups under one banner. Second, the Nationalists obtained funding from both Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy. Without the support of these two countries, the Nationalists would have been in a dire situation, fighting the Republicans, who were being funded by the Soviet Union and international communist organizations.
Just like in the Second Spanish Republic, the right in the United States is composed of different factions. These factions range from White nationalists to Christian nationalists, and then there are those from the mainstream conservative movement. Just like the right-wing factions in Spain, the right in the United States does not collaborate. There appears to be a significant conflict of interest between the factions.
In addition, the American right does not have the luck as the Nationalists did in Spain. The United States military or any federal or even state institution cannot be trusted, and we do not have foreign support from other countries and groups. Even if a small section of the military rebels, it would be relatively insignificant. Also, foreign intervention on our part will be nonexistent because there is no real nationalist government in the 21st century.
In actuality, the American right resembles the White Movement from the Russian Civil War more than the Spanish Nationalists. Just like the White movement, there is too much disunity within the American right. The different factions that exist have different goals which bring conflict of interest. In addition, within these factions, various groups are fighting for dominance over the faction. Every so often, we see new groups emerging on the internet, claiming to bring change and unity. Those efforts usually fail. Our enemies, the left or the pseudo-Bolsheviks, appear to be much more united than us. We have seen these factions unite many times, creating an unstoppable army whenever there is a time of trouble in our country. We have even seen politicians giving them immunity from government repression. Furthermore, our so-called “conservative” politicians had sacrificed many of us to them. I will once again reiterate: if a civil war breaks out, the American right will face a horrible outcome. Disunity, zero support from domestic institutions, and no foreign intervention will inevitably result in our destruction; the same destruction that the White Army faced in Russia.
The second illusion that American rightists have is the illusion that a strongman will appear and save our country. This idea of a strongman coming to the rescue is nothing new. We have seen strongmen throughout history restoring their countries from decadence: Caesar, Napoleon, Franco, and others. Like the first illusion, I believe that no one is coming to save us. The cavalry will not come because, in modern America, there is no such thing as a strongman. I probably sound pessimistic, but I cannot see a strongman ever appearing in the United States in our lifetime. Our politicians are cowards, and they will sell us for thirty pieces of silver. There is also no institutional backing for the right in the United States as there is for the left. Lastly, the so-called right-wing celebrities are just conmen who advertise their merchandise to their idiotic followers. If a strongman ever appears, we must take that individual with a grain of salt, for we cannot afford betrayal.
I wrote this piece to complain about the American right. I have found myself disillusioned by its current state. The American rightists should not wait until a civil war breaks out. On the contrary, we must prevent a war from ever happening. During the early days of the Spanish Civil War, Jose Antonio Primo De Rivera was downhearted after seeing the military revolt turn into a full-blown conflict. He tried to be a mediator to end the conflict because he did not want to see his motherland destroyed. We Americans must have this mentality. We should do our best to prevent such a conflict from ever occurring because we do not know what type of consequences we will face. In addition, we should never wait for a strongman to appear. With our own hands, we must build a network of American rightists and create an alternative society. We must be active in our local communities and have some influence on them. Little do we know that we can find well-minded people in our communities, people that are like us. Nevertheless, this “rightist illusion” is strong within our sphere, and we must do everything to prevent ourselves from falling into it.
